Fall Days At The Zoo

I have to say that summer is my favorite time of the year BUT for the zoo outings fall is my favorite. We always go in the morning so it can be a bit cooler. By noon it is usually quite comfortable. Another plus is, no crowds. During the week school kids are in school and weekends people just don't go when it is a bit cool. Well we went today and it was glorious. The animals were out and moving around so we saw a bunch. We started off in the reptile house. That is Grisham's favorite now, the snakes. Genevieve liked to explore all the buttons that make sounds like the chirp of a gecko or the grumble of the crocodile. The reptile house has a wide range of snakes, lizards and turtles. After the reptiles we went to Asia to see the tiger. We stopped to see the sun bear, who was sleeping. The bats who were awake, go figure. Then to the lemurs. They were very active and made the kids laugh. The elephants were outside today. Beco to baby elephant is now 6 months old and almost 1000 pounds. What do they feed him? Miracle grow for elephants!! The tiger was out for a stroll and walked right by the glass a couple times. It is kinda freaky to see your child standing right by the tiger and you realize the enormity of the animal and the fact that there is only a sheet of glass in between the two. Freaky thought! After the tiger we went over to ride the train. Stopped at the wolves and found out that one of the wolves attacked another one and injured it badly. The zoo keeper was waiting for the vet to arrive and assess the damage. We moved on after that. Stopped at habitat hollow to climb on the words, then to the train. The kids posed for one picture. Lately Grisham has not been excited to see the camera. He has been turning away and saying "No Mommy!!" So the few that I have are momentous. The bears were out with their keeper, waiting for a treat I believe. Finally to end the day we stopped at the otters. One of my favorites but the kids were all that into it so we left. It was a great day and I am so very happy we got to spend it at the zoo on such a lovely day.

It looks like fall in the pictures! I love it! Love all those leaves! After church this morning, I asked Greg what he wanted to do and he said go to the zoo. So we did and we loved it! I agree, it's got to be my favorite time to visit. Unfortunately, the animals weren't active during our visit. Go figure!
