Slate Run Living Historical Farm

Saturday Scott and I took the kids to a historical living farm. It truly was like stepping back into the 1880's. The workers all dressed, cooked and worked like the 1800's. We toured the farm house, which totally reminded me of my in-laws house. The women were busy in the kitchen making lunch. I think the made biscuits and gravy from scratch of course. No Pillsbury dough boy here. The men were outside plowing a field. Tough stuff!! We saw the old smoke house and root cellar. The garden was lush with fresh veggies. The barn was amazing. They even had a new born baby calf. The calf scared Grisham when it mooed while he was petting it. Kinda funny. I guess he has never really heard a cow moo up close and personal. After the barn we went over to see the pigs. Yuck yuck! They smelled awful. I stayed in the barn long enough just to get a few pictures. I don't think I will ever become a pig farmer. Of all the neat things we got to see I think my favorite was the tree swing. We had a wonderful day together and spending just a few hours observing the past makes me more appreciative of the modern conveniences we have today.
