Breakfast With Santa

Scott called me this morning (he is on call at Grant). Santa was going to be at the cafeteria having breakfast and taking pictures. So we hurried up and got to the hospital on time. We had a few minor delays so we were a little late. Grisham was so happy to see Daddy. There was an excellent turn out. We had already eaten so we got in line to see Santa right away. We didn't think Grisham would sit in Santa's lap and we were right. He clung to me like white on rice. The only way we could get Grisham to take a picture was have Scott sit next to Mrs. Claus. Genevieve was very interested in Santa's beard. I had a little trouble getting her away from him. I think she was trying to see if it was real :). After pictures we sat down so Grisham could eat a banana. Scott got paged shortly after we sat down. Oh well I am thankful for the short time that we got to spend with him.

Look What I Did Mommy!!

I went into the office to check my mail. The kids were in the living room playing. As I was reading my mail I realized that it got really quiet in the other room so I decided to investigate and this is what I found. Thankfully the paint came up with polish remover. He was to cute when he said "Mommy I made circles."

Christmas Tea

Tuesday night I went to a Christmas Tea. It was at Beth Meyers house and hosted by Heidi Kovak. Both women are attending's wives. The house or townhouse was a little hard to find. The address is so new that map quest did not have it. I was a little late due to traffic stopped on 315 so I had to back track around to 270. I hate being late and walking in with everyone staring at you. I really was unsure about going. I know I need to get out and socialize with other people but when you stay home all day and spend all your time with kids you start to think that you will have nothing in common or nothing interesting to say but " yep, I changed 20 diapers today and my highlight was nap time." The home was absolutely gorgeous and decorated beautifully for Christmas and the dessert spread was unbelievable. I wanted to eat everything but I get so nervous in situations like this that I could hardly eat one brownie. I was so relieved to have Mary and a few other wives there that I know from the spouse group at the hospital. After socializing for a while we all sat down to listen to a hilarious song sung by a women with an amazing voice. The song was really funny describing Christmas and at the end all she wanted for Christmas was a stretcher. After the song we played a few ice breaker games and the winners received Christmasy cups and saucers. It was really nice to sit down with women who know exactly what you and your husband are going through with residency. The attendings have been there and the residents are there and the medical students will be there soon. After the song a nice lady I think her name was Sue or maybe that was the lady who sang, anyway she started to talk about the perfect gift for Christmas. We all get caught up in the gift buying and giving and sometimes forget the real gift in Jesus. No other gift in the world can compare to the gift our heavenly Father has given to us. To wrap up the evening we sat around and talked more and before I knew it was after ten and Scott had tried calling me three times and was worried sick. Maybe I should pay more attention to the time if I go out again. I had more fun than I expected.

Saturday we went out to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the University of Northern Iowa play. Scott did his under graduate there and he is a huge football fan. We were seated right in front of a tv and they were able to find the game. Scott was so incredibly excited/nervous. We ordered our wings and Grisham found a few friends a table over. He busied himself by "playing " the video games and chasing the girls around. Sometime before half time our waitress was able to put the UNI game up on the big screen tv. I thought Scott was excited before but now he could hardly contain himself. The kids and I left shortly before half time. Eric Elliott was able to stop by and hang out with Scott. I guess the game was pretty intense. UNI won by two. Now all Scott can think about is championship game. UNI needs to win this Saturday and then it is on the championship game. Go Panthers!!!

Art Project

To help fill the day, I decided to try an art project with the older kids. All I needed was some paint, soap and butcher paper. When I was cutting the paper and mixing the paint and soap the kids were getting so excited, some may have called it impatient. As soon as I put the paint on the floor with the paper they went crazy. Grisham knew exactly what to do but Sophia was a little hesitant. She sat back and watched Grisham for a few minutes and then slowly dipped one finger into to paint. Pretty soon she was getting very creative. I think she may have put more paint on her t-shirt than the paper. Clean up was a breeze. Since I added soap to the paint the kids and floor cleaned right up with warm water.

Here Ya Go

While my parents were here last week they bought us a Christmas tree. Last year I insisted that we get real tree. I really do love real trees but last years tree was a pain in the rear. It was so dried out by Christmas. We had needles everywhere and it clogged my new vacuum. So needless to say Scott vetoed the real tree this year. Our new fake tree is perfect. Perfect size and it doesn't shed.
Grisham wasn't feeling well this past week end so he did a lot of this....

Thanksgiving and Parents

Sorry it has been so long to post this. It has taken me two days to compose this blog. Grisham has been sick these last few days so I have been unable to finish anything that I start. I think this is my fourth attempt to post. What a week we had. My parents came out from Iowa to spend Thanksgiving with us. They arrived last Saturday and just left this morning. Both Grisham and Genevieve enjoyed having grandma and papa around. Scott and I took advantage of having free babysitting and went out almost every night. We went to see two movies ( Twilight and Role Models) and we went to a get together at an attendings house. It was nice to have that time together. Oh and Scott was on vacation for the week. I had half the week off. Thursday we had the Clearfields and Woods over for dinner. My mom made a spectacular feast with all the yummy things like stuffing, turkey, butter horns and of course PIE! Jessica brought a yummy peanut and chocolate dessert that was to die for and Michelle Wood introduced me to Mimosa(?). We had fun visiting and watching the Cowboys kick butt on tv. We ended the night with good conversation around the fire pit. We are so thankful for our family and the friends that we have gotten to know in the last four years.
